Sorry we missed you...
Find out the result… Are Machines the Future?
Yesterday, Work Forward community members came together for “Are Machines the Future of Creativity?”. It was an excellent continuation of our three-part “How to Solve for (wh)Y” series. Read on to see what happened in our breakout sessions and if teams thought AI would help or hinder creativity's future.
Below you’ll see the Mural board that we used, capturing the warm-up, key thoughts, and what each team had to say about their hopes (and fears) for the future. You can also view the event recording and links to our next event. We hope to see you there!

Speaker panel
We heard from our host Mark Tippin and four experts and facilitators to discuss artificial intelligence and its role in the workplace. They spoke about the current applications of this technology, how the workplace is changing because of it, and what we should be prepared for in the future.
Quotes
Some highlighted quotes from our conversation are:
"At the end of the day, anything that is from our civilization is from the imagination. The question is, what is the imagination, and what is human?"
- Howard Esbin, Ph.D.
“I think we need not lose sight of the fact that humans totally made it. The ideas that come out of it [AI] are very unique and things that I haven’t seen before, that’s what I’m excited about … but the foundation is very, very human.”
—Andrew Deutsch
“What is the one thing that you hope is never fully “machined”?"
-
- "Donuts" — Howard Esbin, Ph.D.
- "Relationships" — Bob Dyce
- "Stick-shift cars" — Andrew
Warm-Up
We began our session with a quick activity where participants evaluated the impact of technology on ethics, creativity, and utility. They then got to compare their selections to those of the panelists.

Working Group Captures
Next, we broke into smaller groups to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of artificial creativity. Listen to some of the conversation here.

After insightful and thought-provoking conversations, we came back together to discover that there was no group consensus on whether AI is the future of creativity–in fact, many teams could not pick a side!
Looking Ahead
The third part of our virtual event series, "It's not personal, it's business", dives into the cliche of work not being personal, leading into discussions of whether the saying holds true, and whether or not it should.
